Balancing fountain pump output
If you have two water features or statues or other multiple outlets and one pump, assuming the
pump is powerful enough you will need to balance the
pump output, if you do not all the water will come from the lowest outlet,
starving the highest outlet of water, which is not what you want.
The way round this is to balance the pump output so that less
goes to the lower outlet and the remainder (more) goes to the higher
outlet, by installing a variable valve (ball valve in this case) you
can reduce the amount of flow to the right pipe (The lower one) which increases the flow to
the left pipe. (The higher one)

This could be your feature, as you see one outlet is higher
than the other. |

This is what happens if you do not balance the output, too
much water comes from the lower outlet. |

With a slight adjustment the same amount of water comes from
each outlet. |

This is a close up of the ball valve, it could equally
be a gate valve or in line valve. |

Although the pictures are "just two pipes" you
could have more "outlets" This will always be true if one outlet
(or set of outlets) is higher than
the other, you must put the valve in the outlet to the lower
feature, not the higher one.
It is similar if you have 2 different nozzles,
