Cool off in a fountain?
Its hot, there is a fountain you jump in to cool off, its ok, "Everyone
is doing it, it has moving water, that's good enough for me" That is a
typical comment by ignorance.
If you are lucky to have a public fountain in your town,
and its hot its often NOT a good idea to sit. run or play in it.
Fountains re-circulate the water, most have filtration, but not all have
a means of disinfecting the water. If a child runs through a fountain and gets exited and
"relieves themselves" its no longer just water you will be running
through, imagine if a lot of children do this.
Ideally a fountain can cope by having enough "disinfecting" but often in fountain design this is overlooked, or left out
because of cost. Of those that do have it they can not always cope with
the very large amount of "extra water" they have to cope with, so its best you just
stand back and admire a fountain.
Yes, some fountains are
designed for people to "play in" these have normally been designed to cope
with "extra water" but in short if a fountain has a wall round it, no
matter how low, don't get in it.
Across the world some
cities turn their fountains off for this very reason.
