Foot Valve

Foot valve, what is it?

A foot valve is a type non return valve, so that when a pump is switched off the water (in our case) does not run back down the pipe.

This is a typical 1 inch foot valve. Other supplies of foot valves are available.

In order for a foot valve to initially work the pipe from the pump to the foot valve must be full of water, pumps that do this are called self priming pumps, all our pumps are NOT self priming, so regretfully we do not recommend the use of a foot valve with our pumps. You can dry mount the pumps in a suitable dry sump or dedicated pump chamber, but they must be below the water surface.

If you try and use a non self priming pump with a foot valve you are likely to burn out the pump.

Often, a project is never completed because of the unexpected costs. Folk do not always want to hear the truth.
