How musical fountains work

Here I hope to show you how some musical fountains work. (Ours, not all musical fountains)

What is a musical fountain

A musical fountain is a fountain that works in time with the music.

What do they do?

There are various options of musical fountains, some have jets that just shoot up "in time" with the music, some just operate with music playing in the background, some have few pumps and use either electric or pneumatic valves, then there is ours.

Ours is shown in the picture below, as you can see it has multiple pumps, this one has 21 pumps. The more pumps the more options / combinations there are.

So how does it work?

Unlike some fountains, ours use asynchronous pumps. Most pumps are either on or off. An asynchronous pump can be anywhere from from 0% (off) to100% (maximum) or anywhere in-between. By doing this each jet can be at an infinite height between its lowest and highest points. Now multiply that by 21 (In our case)
