Pond Fountain
Fountain in a pond, we can supply almost any type of fountain, but a
fountain for a pond is not something we supply. Please allow us to
explain. We had this recent enquiry.
"Dear Sir, I have a recently constructed pond
approx.14 x28 yds and 5 foot deep of oval shape. I quite like the classic
design. Is this feasible?"
The idea of a fountain sounds nice, but let us look at it in more detail.
Below is a picture of a typical fountain pump and nozzle. The height of
this combination is just over 1 foot, but the pond this is required for is
5 feet deep, the average pond is 2 - 4 feet deep (Some are
even deeper)

Do you see what is the problem?
So if you have a deep pond (The deeper a pond the better it is for the
fish) You can consider an extension pipe, not all pumps accept them and
they are on average 1 foot tall, so for a pond that is 5 feet deep you
would need 5 of them, any more than 2 and the whole structure becomes
unstable.
So how about some bricks? Well for a start you can't lay bricks underwater
with cement. (Two reasons: One the cement will float away Two, the lime
will kill the fish) and for a 5 foot brick tower its going to need a lot
of bricks and be very wide at the base for stability.
So
what can you do if you have a deep pond and you want a fountain? Well you
can have a floating fountain, such as shown below.

However, as these cost around £900 retail the is often off putting to most
people.
It is also worth noting, most ponds have plants and or livestock, the
by products of which can easily block fountains.
Dedicated fountain pools are usually only a few
inches deep. It is with regret and these reasons we do not supply
fountains for ponds.
