Solar Pump Enquiry
Here is a genuine enquiry about a solar pond pump, as
you will see, the enquirer had brought the pump first (as explained below)
If only they had
contacted us first
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are currently building a solar powered fountain. We have the system
designed and have bought the pump (an SXT 500
*) The pump outlet is 15mm in
diameter. Could you give us some advice about what pipe and nozzles we
would need? The lift height required is about 3m. So we would like one
pipe going up to that height then we would like it to split at the top
with maybe 4 or 5 different sprays comming off in different directions.
Or one big nozzle that sprays in all directions.
Could you advise us on what pipe we should get and any connectors etc we
would need? Also, could you suggest what configuration to put at the
top?
Thanks.

*We had never heard
of this pump, but a search soon found it. At the time of the enquiry
(around 2004) it was being
sold for around £300 including a suitable solar panel
Like the majority of solar operated
pumps, it was not capable of reaching 1.5m in height let alone the 3m the
enquirer wanted. (Look at the maximum fountain water spray height) Again
looking at the fountain spray height the max is only 0.6m (Remember they
wanted "4 or 5 different sprays.....at about
3m.") The chart we show has no figures at 1.5m because it can not
pump any water that high.
If
only the enquiry had of asked us first, we could have saved them wasting
their
money*.
(*By asking
us first we could have checked their intended pump and pointed out, it is
simply not up to the required task. No, we would not have sold them one of
our solar pumps either, for the same reason, its not up to the task, most
solar pumps are really only for "decorative use" Even if they had of opted
for the SXT 2000 it too would have been no use at 3m in height. )
