Stored water for a water fountain

An existing 5000 litre cistern fed by a small natural stream was required to feed a fountain nozzle in a lake for "a couple of hours / day"

The idea was that the natural stream fills the cistern overnight and then a valve is opened during the day to operate the nozzle.

The height from the cistern to the lake is not a problem as it gives enough pressure to operate the nozzle to the required jet height (2m)

The real problem with this is water demand. To have a visible stream of water the required  nozzle has a water demand of 100 LPM.

This is fine when using a pump since the water will be recirculated, but with a tank of 5000 litres and a water demand of 100 litres / minute the best you could hope for is a fountain jet that lasts for 50 minutes, not the required "couple of hours"

(5000 (stored litres)  / 100 (litres demand  per minute) = 50 (minutes run time)

If the water flow from the stream was enough to operate the nozzle, the cistern would not be required and the water could be piped direct to the nozzle.

There is also the problem of how to mount the nozzle in the middle of a lake. (But that's for another time)

We saved these people a small fortune because they would have gone ahead with pipe work and nozzle only to find it would not work. Yes we made no money, but Its always best to ask FIRST.
